New Study Finds Investment in Public K-12 Education Continues to Drop

Arizona is among five of the eight states with the biggest cuts to public education since 2008 that have also cut income taxes during that time period, according to an updated report released by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Per student state dollars, adjusted for inflation, for Arizona’s K-12 funding formula is 12.8% lower in fiscal year 2017 than in fiscal year 2008. Read more

Nicole Stanton, Arizona Juvenile Courts to Be Honored at 18th Annual Through the Eyes of a Child Luncheon

PDF Version  (Phoenix, AZ) – Hundreds of Arizonans will join Children’s Action Alliance (CAA) in honoring Phoenix attorney Nicole Stanton and the Arizona Juvenile Courts for their efforts in improving conditions for kids at this month’s annual Through the Eyes of a Child luncheon, being held Friday, October 21st. New Census Data Finds Drop in Uninsured Children in Arizona

Some good news from the U.S. Census Bureau this week, as the agency released data on more than 40 different topics in the American Community Survey. Notable in the data is a significant drop in the percentage of children without health coverage in Arizona. The data, from 2015, estimates that, 8% of Arizona’s children remained uninsured in 2015, compared with 10% in 2014. Read more

Welcome Our Newest CAA Team Member

We are pleased to introduce our newest staff member, Siman Qaasim, who joins Children’s Action Alliance as Director of Health Policy. Siman is a well-seasoned public health professional, with a background in developing and administering community health programs. She joins the team from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, where she was an administrator for the Office of School Health and Wellness Initiatives. Read more

KidsCare Coverage Starts Now

It was a hard-fought battle to lift the freeze on KidsCare, but Arizona families won. As of today, working families who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, or AHCCCS) yet cannot afford the premiums, deductibles and co-pays of a private or Health Insurance Marketplace plan, can now get their children to a doctor as soon as they need one. Arizona Kids Count Data Shows Successes, Declines in Kids’ Conditions

New county-level statistics compiled by Children’s Action Alliance, in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, show a detailed insight into child poverty, academic achievement, child safety and juvenile crime in Arizona. The 2016 Arizona KIDS COUNT Data Book analyzes five years of data from 2009 – 2014, comparing conditions for kids and families from a difficult economic period during and after the nation slowly emerged from the Great Recession.
