College Aid for Foster Youth

Another positive bill, SB 1208, passed the Senate on Wednesday with an overwhelming 27 – 1 vote, with 2 members absent. SB 1208 would waive tuition payments for teens that were in foster care and are enrolled in community college or a state university (after available federal and state tuition assistance grants are applied). Youth who were in foster care at age 16 can qualify. It has been sent to the House, but has not yet been assigned to committee.
