On a Roll!
Another bill we support moved forward this week. SB1208 pilot; foster care tuition waiver (Driggs, Landrum Taylor, Murphy, et al) waives tuition payments for foster children who get accepted to and maintain good standing for attending state universities or community colleges. It would go a long way to helping youth in foster care attend and complete college and we are happy to see it has garnered widespread support in the legislature.
It applies to foster children in between the ages of 16 and 23, and if the youth receives federal assistance and scholarships, those would be considered in amount of waiver. It passed by a 8-0-1 vote in the Senate Education Committee. The next step is for it to be heard in the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
